Headland Hotel, Port Issac, Cornwall - Feb 2019

Headlands Hotel @ Port Gaverne, Port Issac.

Closed 2010. After 22 years the owners decided to retire and sell up. Even when it was open it was a very outdated hotel. Approx 2013 an application was submitted to knock down and build new hotel. As with all these types applications they seem to have stalled.

The hotel was also used to film several scenes for the program Doc Martin, filmed mainly in Port Issac.

Building is in a very poor state of repair.

Hey there, I've been interested in urbex for a long while and just last week I decided I'd go, myself, to a few places I saw here, Abandoned Places and else where.

It was a success both times (photos below), but now I'm hooked and was wondering if there was anyone else around the area to do it with. I've got a few places in mind (which I might even go to in a few hours before it gets dark), but I'd love more to add to my list (currently on 13 to go to or have been)...

So I know this one has been reported on to death and that there are far better images of the place on here than mine but I was adamant I was going to visit Talgarth. I won't bore you with repeated history.

I'd heard some rumours about the dreaded security guard in a white van but thought nothing of it. Unfortunately I found out that this dude (I named him Derek) was all too real and though he was actually a self appointed security guard/neighbour of the site, this little old gent was like...

History

Northampton Technical College was first established in 1924; - With the St George’s Avenue building being opened in 1932, the School of Art being opened in 1937 and The College of Education at Park Campus (The main site) being opened by Margaret Thatcher in 1972.

There is not much more to say about this place which hasn’t been said in previous threads. So I won't say a lot apart from...what a fantastic place.

It is a shame that all the furniture and beds have been removed, but thanks to someone on this site the obligatory wheelchair is still there lurking in a corridor.
You can still find the odd feature piece and the main hall still has the charity banner up above the srage just waiting for its audience.

This site has been done so much on here but there’s so much to see that I just had to go! Myself and 2 fellow explorers adorned our gear and travelled to Hampshire to see an old brickworks. It closed down without notice in 2009 due to going into administration. Access was easy but due to the road it’s on parking a car looks suspicious. It was amazing to see all the machinery still intact and was quite sad to think of all the jobs lost. We did encounter a man toward the end of our visit who...

Safari House, also known as Artists House and Glitterball House.

Hard to find, hidden off an old road, impassable by car and invisible to Google’s aerial view.

I have never seen so many squirrels. There must of been 20 just on each tree. All looking at me, squealing like the sound of a dog, throwing twigs at me. All looking like if I made the wrong move they would pounce and attack me. When in the house they was running up and down the walls on the outside and over the roof. Very eerie...

Holme Bank Chert Mine 2017

Holme Bank and Holme Farm chert mines were in operation for over 150 years. Initially as separate entities and then as one. The stone was also quarried at the surface.
During the latter part of it's life the site was primarily used to produce cement blocks rather than block stone.
Part of the mine is flooded and used for mine diving training.

Photos are from two visits on the same day (locals were made aware we'd be there at night to save them needlessly calling the police).

Penmaen diorite quarry was opened around 1830 as a source of granite setts. Initially most of the output was taken down inclines to a dedicated wharf for onward transport. In 1848 the mainline railway reached the town and a new loading area was constructed for rail transport. By this time the quarry had also incorporated the earlier Graiglwyd Quarry. Largantogher Brook Mid Section Big Tunnel Outlet And Troll Hole Culvert

I returned to the brook today to scout out the upper section of the brook and i found the outfall of the big tunnel and im considering becuase the tunnel is only 3 feet in diameter bollocks i was looking foward to venturing down there but who knows i might end up going down but what i can see is me crawling up a quarter of a mile of tunnels or i might use a skateboard. Another reason im considering is because i noticed rags all way down the brook and the tunnel had a really bad smell worse...

Visited with jackal but thanks to Ali and Nik24 who pointed us in the right direction to give us something to do while they went of to dinner:gay:thumb

After another threat of invasion from Napoleon III two new dry moats where added these both had there own casemates.

The southern casemate is larger than the north with 8 rooms where as the north only has 6, the two are joined together by an old sewer pipe which you have to crawl through :eek:
